The most frequent missing children’s case type seen by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) is runaways. An analysis conducted by NCMEC showed that over 80% of our cases in the last 5 years were identified as endangered runaways.* An endangered runaway is a child who is missing of his or her own accord and whose whereabouts are unknown to their parent(s) or legal guardian.
