Chief Winters joined Chief Earle of Gloucester Twp. and all of the members of the Camden County Addiction Awareness Task Force as the Camden County Freeholders announced a proclamation declaring August 31, 2015 as Overdose Awareness Day.
On August 12, 2014, Governor Christie, as part of the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA) commitment to raising overdose prevention awareness and combating stigma, proclaimed August 31, 2014 as Overdose Awareness Day. This was the first proclaimed Overdose Awareness Day in New Jersey and it coincides with International Overdose Awareness Day which began in August of 2001 in Australia and has been recognized annually in countries throughout the world to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met death or permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.
